One building, several versions of the truth
A plan may show the right opening while the elevation shows the old one. A section may carry a revised level that never reached the detail. These inconsistencies are easy to create because drawings are developed view by view, but they are expensive to discover on site. Coordination is the discipline of reading related views as one description of the same building. Rather than browsing randomly between pages, reviewers need a repeatable route that exposes disagreements and records every place where the correction must be considered.
Choose a primary view and build a trail
Start with the view that defines the element most clearly. For room layouts it may be the plan; for a façade junction it may be a section or enlarged detail. List the callouts, elevations, sections, schedules and notes connected to that view. Then follow those references in order. This creates a small coordination trail inside a large package. It prevents the review from drifting toward unrelated pages and makes it easier to return after an interruption without rebuilding the entire chain from memory.
Compare fixed anchors in the same order
Check grids, levels, openings, dimensions, material changes and reference tags systematically. Fixed anchors reveal mismatches more reliably than a general visual impression. For example, follow one window from its plan position to the elevation head height, section build-up and schedule type. Repeat the same sequence for the next element. A consistent order may feel slower at first, but it quickly becomes a rhythm. It also reduces the chance that a reviewer notices the obvious geometry while missing a conflicting note or identifier.
Describe both sides of every conflict
When two views disagree, identify both of them in the markup. “Door position differs between A-102 and elevation 3/A-301; confirm intended location and update the related view” is more useful than placing “wrong” on one sheet. The author can see the full relationship and is less likely to correct only the marked page. Where several drawings depend on the same decision, list them in the comment or add linked notes. The objective is not merely to point out an error, but to restore one coordinated version of the design.
Recheck the chain after revision
A response may solve the original markup and still leave a new inconsistency elsewhere. When revised drawings arrive, follow the same trail again. Confirm the primary change, then inspect the related views, schedules and references that depend on it. Record the revision checked before resolving the comment. This final loop is where coordination becomes dependable. It recognises that drawings are a connected system: changing one representation is only complete when every affected representation tells the same story.
The method becomes faster with practice because reviewers learn the typical relationships behind each building element. A façade opening suggests a familiar set of plans, sections, details and schedules; a stair suggests another. Those repeatable trails turn coordination from a vague search for mistakes into a focused comparison of connected information, making both findings and corrections easier to trust.
